A brief Pixie & Dixie update

Pregnancy is going great... I'm frickin' giant.  I'm as big now as I was at the end of my other pregnancies, and I still have 11 weeks (give or take) to go!

We've decided to go with a home birth.  I've been guest blogging about it here and here over at The Lactivist, if you're interested in the details.

Someone over at The Lactivist linked me to this video... I will probably watch it at least daily from now until the babies are born:

So happy to hear from you! I'm so excited for you. That video made me teary eyed.

For videotaping at the hospital (or at home, whatever), you are totally welcome to borrow my Canon camera... it takes video but it's actually a still camera. You can fit I think 20 mins on a 2 gb SD card. When I use it, people cheese and think I'm taking a picture when I'm taking video.

Although, I am 0 for 2 with good childbirth pictures... with Greg, my doula (whose only real job was to man the camera) hit the shutter halfway but only focused, and didn't actually take the pictures. GRRRR!!!! And with Vivi's birth, my sister who was supposed to man the camera, well, I was helping put Greg to bed 15 mins before Vivi was born and so she didn't realize she should be in there with the camera. d'oh. Maylie was at the hospital and I was unsure of the whole thing, but with Greg and Vivi I really wanted some good pictures. oh well. not having a 4th to get that. ha ha.

Using a still camera instead of an actual video camera to take video is a great idea! I'm definitely going to do that.

Honestly, if I end up in the hospital with Dr. Jenkins, I think he'll let us do whatever we want. When Jonny was born, the hospital policy was no video, and you could take still pictures immediately before and after the birth, but not of the *actual* birth. At least two nurses reminded Lee of this as he snapped pictures while I was in labor. When I started to push, Lee dutifully put the camera down. Dr. Jenkins said, "What are you doing? Get down here and take pictures if you want to!" The nurse huffed, but we have pictures of Jonny's birth! :)

We didn't even have the camera with us for Gracie or Levi's births. With Gracie, we thought we were just going for my regular 39w visit, found out I was 7cm dilated, and went straight to the hospital to have her. Lee had to go home afterward to get all my stuff. With Levi, I didn't really think I was in labor, but went in "just to be sure." Of course, I was, and we hadn't brought anything with us!

Added bonus to being at home: no need to remember anything!!

I would've had oopsie babies if I didn't plan a home birth to start, too. lol. I can't wait to meet your babies and hear your birth story, I'm sure it'll be amazing.

Have you talked to Erica? (ericainohio?) I told her to contact you because she is having twins, in Ohio, and wanting a home birth. She's been a really big homebirth advocate down in the Cincy area.

I'm surprised that the hospitals would be against videotaping a birth. Both of mine were videotaped, with no issues at all - hell, they expected it.

I guess they were less worried about lawsuits back then.

Are the babies still breech/transverse?

Yep - the ONLY reason for the "no video" policies is fear of litigation. It's sad, really. And it makes me want to ask them, "What are you afraid of? If you're doing what you're supposed to be doing, there won't be anything 'incriminating' on the video."

Really, though, if I end up in the hospital with Dr. Jenkins, I think he'll let us do whatever we want in regards to photo/video, regardless of the hospital's policies.

I think Pixie (Baby A) might have turned back to vertex, but I'm not totally confident in my self-palpating skills. I see the midwives next week, so they should be able to confirm.

I saw that video a couple days ago, and I thought of you and wondered how you were doing.

Hey! I know Lisa, mom of Zack and Mia in that video. She was a regular over on the Childbirth Choices debate board at Babycenter when I was a host.

Can't wait to see your pics and birth story when this is all said and done. :)

(Jen, by the way...too lazy to log in.)
